Abstract

1416595 Partition panel P H ALEXANDRE 16 Feb 1973 [18 Feb 1972] 7803/73 Headings E1B and E1W A hollow partition panel having good sound insulation properties comprises a frame 9 of a fibrous or cellular material e.g. of wood, to which are attached wallboards 10, preferably of plaster or mineral bound fibres, which are covered on their outer faces with metal plates 13, preferably of steel. The frame boards, and plates having differing elastic moduli but substantially the same masses. A layer 12 of sound absorbent material, preferably of glass fibre or cellulose fibre, may be attached to the inner face of one of the wall boards. Rigid members 23, shorter than the spacing between the wallboards, may be. attached to the wallboards so as to strengthen the panel if deflected, on one side. The panel is supported on a wooden rail 3 and held in a metal ceiling channel 6 filled with fibrous material 7. The side edges of the panels are grooved, and joints are made using tongued pillars 16, Fig. 3, which stand in metal stirrups 21 and are held upright by a screw 18, nut 19, and belleville washer 20 jack arrangement. The section 6d of the metal channel 6 is removeable to enable this. Layers of felt 5a, 5b, 8a, (14a) may be interposed between the components, and the frame uprights may be split parallel to the wallboards. Fig. 5 (not shown), and a resilient layer of sound absorbent material (25) inserted. Doors and windows may be incorporated in the panels, Fig. 10 (not shown).
