Abstract
733,306. Partition walls. KOLLER, E. Dec. 8, 1953 [Jan. 12, 1953], No. 34154/53. Class 20 (4). A double sound- and heat-insulating partition wall is formed of prefabricated panels, the oppositely situated slabs 8, 9 or 10, 11, Fig. 2, of which are arranged and constructed to have different bending strengths by choice of spacers, the kind, or thickness, of material &c., the natural vibration wavelength of each panel being so selected that air-borne sound passing through the wall is considerably attenuated. Each panel is formed of two slabs 8, 9 or 10, 11 cemented to spacers 12, made e.g. of rubber, and having different thickness and material properties, the slabs 9, 11 being made e.g. of sheet metal and the slabs 8, 10 being made of plastic, fibre board, or eternite. When a slab is made of plastic, or fibre board, a thin sheet of non-porous material, e.g. sheet metal, should be mounted about 1-3 mm. away from it to obtain good sound-deadening effect. The space between the slabs is filled with sound-deadening material, e.g. crumpled paper or glass wool 13. The vertical edges of the panels are cemented to column strips 4 or 5 made e.g. of metal, plastic or eternite, and which, upon erecting the panels side by side, are joined in nesting relation, 180 degrees with respect to each other, to form a rigid hollow column. The columns and the wall panels are secured between the floor and ceiling by clamping or gluing or similar known manner, and are closed off by cover strips 19, Figs. 3, 4. The panel according to Fig. 3 is closed along its lower edge by a strip 14 screwed to wooden strips 17, 17 joined to the slabs 8, 9 by screws 18 which also fasten the cover strip 19, flexible packing strips 20 being arranged between the lower edges of the slabs 8, 9 and the strips 19. The panel according to Fig. 4 has two sheet steel slabs 21, 22 which are bent round and secured to wooden strips 23, 24 respectively, a flexible packing strip 20 being inserted between the lower edge of the slab 22 and the cover strip 19 secured to it. A V- shaped groove 28 is formed in the strip 23 to receive a flexible packing strip 27. A double wall partition is installed by first setting up an auxiliary column, not shown, at a chosen place in the space intended to be occupied by a hollow column 4, 5, the auxiliary column, e.g. a pipe being braced between the floor and ceiling, e.g. by rubber pads, and being provided with lugs, or recesses, to facilitate the joining of the strips 4, 5. The other strips 4, 5 of adjacent panels are arranged together either with, or without, locating auxiliary columns between them, as desired. The auxiliary columns can be so constructed to accommodate window, or door, frame parts.
