Abstract

The side hung door can be of a single or double leaf variety, and having both fire resistant and sound insulating properties, and having double rebated edge details. Anchored (2) and stepped metal section frame (1) the door opening, the leaf having a cavity construction with stiff boards (6, 7) screwed outside the respective flanges of a 'Z' section frame (3). The boards support sheet metal fascia panels (12, 13) bedded on rubber (14, 15) and the cavity is filled with two layers (16, 17) of mineral wool separated by corrugated or goffered metal sheet (18). Strips of rubber (8) may interpose the boards and the frame flanges with rubber washers similarly interposing the flanges and the screw heads (11). Non-uniform perpendicular gaps may be provided between casement and door frame faces parallel to the major door plane, accommodating sound absorbent (22, 23) and thermo-expanding (24) seals.
