Abstract

1,012,849. Fire-resistant doors. PADDE PTY. Ltd. Sept. 23, 1964, No. 38816/64. Heading E1J. A fire-resistant door comprises two panels 1 of non-metallic high density fire-resistant material of high thermal insulation and low coefficient of expansion, e.g. asbestos composition, the two panels 1 being fixed to opposite sides of and flush at the edges of a frame 3 whose stile 2 to which the hinges 10 are fixed by screws 9 being of non-metallic high density fire-resistant material such as densely bonded calcium silicate which also has a high thermal insulation and low coefficient of expansion and the opposite stile, head rail 3 and the panels 1 being of less densely bonded asbestos composition, the panels providing a space 4 which is filled with horizontally laid fire-resistant blocks 5 preferably tongued and grooved, of low density calcium silicate composition, the panels being covered on the exposed faces and may be the edges of the door, with glued-on decorative sheets 7 of timber impregnated with fireresistant ammonium dihydrogen orthophosphate. The panels, frame and blocks 5 are glued together. The decorative channel member 8, Fig. 9 of double swing doors has a central groove 13 with a smoke sealing strip 14 fixed therein.
