Abstract

759,437. Heat insulating walls. SECO, Ltd. Sept. 15, 1954, No. 26716/54. Class 20(4). A joint between two building panels of a building structure comprising a plurality of prefabricated building panels assembled in aligned relation comprises a jointing post interposed between adjacent edge surfaces of the two panels and securing the panels together in aligned relation, the post including a thermally insulating material for obstructing the flow of heat through the joint in a direction transversely of the panels. The wall structure comprises wall panels 1, 2, which as shown comprise a wooden frame 4 having an outer facing sheet 5 of asbestos cement and inner facing sheet 6 of plaster board between which there is a core 7 of wood wool and cement bonded to the frame 4 and sheet 5 and a thermally insulating layer 8 of slag wool. Such panels are described and claimed in Specification 759,436. The vertical frame members 4 are cut away on their inner faces to form a longitudinally extending recess 9 between two panels to receive a jointing post 3 as a close fit. Cut away portions 11 on the outer faces are filled with a suitable mastic sealing compound 12. Each post 3 comprises a wooden strip 13, a strip 14 of granulated cork or like thermal insulation layer and a facing strip 15 of plaster board, the strips being applied separately or secured by a suitable cement to form a united structure. The strips 14 and 15 are formed with apertures 16, which may be in pairs or in staggered arrangement, and the post is secured through the wooden batten 13 to the wooden frame members 4 by screws 17, the apertures 16 then being filled with plugs 18 comprising a granulated cork portion 19 and a plaster board portion 20. After assembly, a vapour barrier is applied over the whole inner surface of the wall structure and as shown comprises paper backed aluminium foil 21 glued to the plaster board facing, the paper backing forming a foundation for applying interior decoration to the wall. The vapour barrier may be applied separately to the posts and panels and joined after assembly by a narrow strip over the joint.
