820,465. Fire resisting doors. S.O.S. BSKOD I/S. March 5, 1957 [March 5, 1956], No. 7344/57. Class 20(3) A fire retarding door comprises two layers of wood 10, 12 and an intermediate layer 14 of incombustible material which is sandwiched between two thin metal sheets made e.g. of iron, heat conducting accessories for the door such as hinges 30, Fig. 3, and locks, not shown, being secured to the door with the interposition of a lining 36 of incombustible material. A glass pane 18, with inlaid wire mesh 20 is secured within a stepped rebate 22 formed in a glazing aperture 16 preferably in the same plane as the incombustible layer 14. Lists 24 have stepped faces 26 which correspond with the faces 22 on the rebate to form a T-section groove which is filled with a slurry of incombustible binding material 28, made e.g. of asbestos or mica fibres and water glass. The latter acts as a binding agent between the asbestos fibres and the wood. Veneers, not shown, are provided on each face of the door and preferably over the material 28. Two layers of heat insulating incombustible material may be arranged to enclose a layer of wood, the layers in different zones of the door being displaced so that connection between adjacent zones can be made by gluing wood to wood.
