Abstract

The self-supporting panel comprises a mineral fibre mat in which holes are pierced from both sides in position off-set from one another, not penetrating through to the other side. The surfaces are then coated with a binder in the liquid state which penetrates into the holes and sets and hardens but does not connect to the opposite surface. The binder may be mineral (CaSO4) or organic (plastic) etc. The panels have the advantage that no supporting struts penetrate from one side to the other, consequently, the sound insulation is an optimum.
