Abstract
1416451 Ignition systems DUCELLIER & CIE 15 Nov 1972 [25 Nov 1971] 52704/72 Heading F1B An ignition system for an internal-combustion engine includes a capacitor 3, a diode 4 through which the capacitor is charged in use and a thyristor 2 for discharging the capacitor through a primary winding 5 of an ignition coil 6, the secondary 7 of which has induced therein a high voltage each time the capacitor discharges through the primary winding. The high voltage is arranged to produce an electric spark between the electrodes 8, 9 of a sparking plug 10. The thyristor is triggered in use by a timing circuit in synchronism with rotation of the internal-combustion engine, and the system comprises auxiliary means for prolonging the arc created between the electrodes of the sparking plug. As shown the auxiliary means comprises a second capacitor 12 and a second thyristor 11 associated with a second primary winding 14 of the ignition coil. In a modification (not shown) the second thyristor is replaced by a transistor and a capacitor is arranged in parallel with the series combination of the transistor and a diode.
