Abstract

1415211 Spray carburetters P AUGUST 11 Jan 1973 [13 Jan 1972] 1569/73 Heading F1B In a carburetter having a piston valve 4, Fig. 1 and a bridge piece 5, one surface of the piston valve together with an adjacent surface of the bridge piece define a duct having a converging section and a diverging section, the duct thus having the form of a Laval nozzle. At low idling speeds fuel passes via ducts 10 and 8 into the slot 6 formed between the piston valve 4 and the bridge piece 5 to be atomized by air passing from inlet 2 to outlet 3. As the piston valve opens additional fuel passes through ducts 9. Fuel from a float chamber (not shown) passes via duct 11, jet 12 and mixing pipe 13, where it is mixed with air from nozzle 14, and the mixture passes through a convergent/divergent nozzle formed between a needle 15 and a nozzle element 16 where the fuel atomization is increased. A further cowling 17 may be fitted to improve atomization. Slot 6 may be formed partially in the piston valve and bridge piece or wholly in the latter. The main nozzle system may comprise a plurality of convergent/divergent nozzles.
