Abstract

1,151,802. Spray carburetters. BRITISH MOTOR CORP. Ltd. Jan.25, 1968 [Jan.12, 1967], No.1647/67. Heading F1B. At small air flows through the carburetter a large proportion of the air passing through the main air passage 1 is channelled through a duct 10 adjacent the metering jet 2 controlled by the contoured needle 3 of the suction-actuated piston 4. The mixture from the duct 10 passes through a by-pass duct 11 opening into the main mixture passage 1A through a nozzle 12 protruding into the passage downstream and adjacent to the cutaway portion 13 of the throttle 7. The ducts 10 and 11 are in permanent communication with the constant suction region 14 of the main air passage 1. The duct 10 may be formed by a groove in the base of the piston 4. In a further embodiment, Fig.5 (not shown), the air is channelled through a duct (15) in the bridge (6) with which the piston (4) co-operates.
