Abstract

1412554 Liquid seals JAMES HOWDEN & CO Ltd 21 June 1974 [21 June 1973] 29586/73 Addition to 1165821 Heading F2V Admission of gas to an inlet 1 causes a pressure drop in a venturi 7 connected in parallel with a pressure-reducing valve 6 so that water is drawn from a U-shaped seal 3 into a reservoir 9. The valve 6 may be replaced by a non- return valve, a second non-return valve being provided in the tube connecting the venturi to the gas duct downstream of the main valve. The centre of the bend of the U-shaped seal coincides with the centre of a float valve or overflow so that the height of liquid forming the seal is unaffected by tilting when the seal is used in a gas pipe on board a ship.
