Abstract

1359016 Suction dredgers ORENSTEIN & KOPPEL AG 3 Sept 1971 [9 Sept 1970] 41295/71 Heading E1F [Also in Division F2] A by-pass valve, which is designed for use in the pressure line of a floating suction dredger, comprises a tubular housing 11 around the periphery of which there are formed apertures 13. Contained within the housing is a flexible tube 14. The inner diameter of the flexible tube is so chosen as to be equal to the inner diameter of piping connected to the flanges 12 of the tubular housing 11. The apertures may open into a further housing 19 having a single opening 20. In use, the valve without the further housing is located between an underwater pump (4) and a pump (2) located in the barge (1); the valve with the further housing is located downstream of a rotary elbow (7) which elbow is itself located downstream of the barge pump (2), the opening 20 of the further housing being kept below the water surface. A reduction in pressure in the dredger piping consequent to a blockage occuring, results in one or both valves opening to permit water to flow into the piping
