Abstract

1331467 Supply fittings for cisterns G H CLARIDGE 30 Sept 1970 [30 Sept 1969 6 Feb 1970] 46577/70 Heading E1C [Also in Divisions F2 and G3] A silencer which is designed to be incorporated in the water supply leading to a cistern or at the outlet of a domestic water tap, comprises a plastics material conduit 2 having an inlet end 3, an intermediate externally screwthreaded portion 5 and an outlet end 6. Disposed about the outlet are a cap member 7 and a skirt member 14, both members being of plastics material and being secured to the conduit 2. The cap member has an integral projection 10 upon which there is disposed a rubber disc 11, the relative positioning of the cap 7 and conduit 2 being such that the disc tends to engage the outlet end 6. Accordingly, water flowing into conduit 2 has to deflect disc 11 and then pass through cap apertures 13 prior to entering the silencer outlet constituted by the skirt member 14. The formation of a chamber 9 between conduit 2 and cap 7 and the nature of the disc member 11 are said to create a back pressure, within conduit 2 and hence a reduction in noise generated by the flow of liquid. Furthermore the resistance of member 11 to moving away from conduit end 6 is said to determine the degree of back pressure prevailing in the silencer. The disc 11 may have a concave underside. The conduit 2 includes a check-valve member 18.
