Abstract

1411747 Offshore platforms CLEVELAND BRIDGE & ENG CO LTD 26 Oct 1972 [3 Nov 1971] 51204/71 Heading E1H A support jacket for an oil rig comprises a plurality of elongate structural members 1, 2, 3 interconnected via further structural members 5, 7, 8, 9, the third elongate member 3 being connected prior to installation only to member 5 by a pivot 6. The jacket is assembled on its side, the two elongate members 1, 2 being laid out and connected to member 5 which is hexagonal. Member 3 is then pivoted to member 5 and supported in a substantially horizontal position whilst members 7, 8, 9 are assembled. The jacket is then floated into deep water and the lower end of members 1 and 2 ballasted so that member 3 pivots into engagement with members 7, 8, 9 to which it is then secured. The jacket may comprise four fixed elongate structural members with one pivotable one to form a five-legged jacket.
