Abstract
The support is formed using a base which is sunk at the desired point. The base constitutes a tubular triangular frame with a circular caisson support (1) at each apex. Three further tubular members extend from each apex, rise slightly and converge on a tubular socket seat for the central hollow column (9). The superstructure, erected at sea, constitutes the central column (9) with three more tubular members (10) emanating from caisson supports to converge on the column just below sea level. The base is constructed by rolling the base frame out onto floating moored caissons and joining it to them using universal joints. The base is sunk by selectively flooding caisson compartments.
