Abstract
1428609 Offshore structures; ballasting into position BROWN & ROOT Inc 18 Feb 1974 [27 Feb 1973] 7280/74 Headings B7A and B7M [Also in Division E1] An offshore tower 20 is transported to a preselected site on the bed 22 of a body of water by buoyant element 100 which supports the tower in a horizontal posture above the surface of the body of water, Figs. 2 and 10b. The buoyant element is connected to the tower by columns 200, Fig. 5, and by a pivotal connection 234, Fig. 6 (not shown), between a lowermost portion of the buoyant element and a base portion of the tower. The buoyant element is ballasted to lower the tower into the water and into a generally vertical posture resting on the water bed, Figs. 15b and 18. The buoyant element is then disconnected along the extent of the tower whilst the pivotal connection is maintained. The buoyant element is then pivoted away from the tower, released from its pivotal connection and towed away, Figs. 20b, 21 and 22b. Buoyant element 100 comprises watertight tubular members 102, 104, Fig. 5, and each of these includes a unitary tubular section and a bifurcated or tuning-fork shaped tubular section.
