Abstract

1,153,652. Offshore platform. LITTON INDUSTRIES Inc. 10 Oct., 1965 [11 Oct., 1965], No. 45263/66. Heading E1H. A marine structure comprises three hollow columns 23, 24, 25 supporting a triangular working platform 12, the columns being capable of being flooded so that the structure can be maintained in a floating position on the surface of the water, or in a semi-submerged position in which the columns are partly submerged, or in a bottom-sitting position in water sufficiently shallow to permit the platform to remain above water level when the structure is in the bottom-sitting position and spuds such as 42 each with heave dampers 46, 47 attached are downwardly displaceable for use in the bottom-sitting position and are upwardly retractable into a position where they do not interfere with the operations of the structure when in either of the other two positions. Each of the columns 23, 24, 25 is supported by a hollow footing such as 27 at its base, the footings having a boat shaped contour and being orientated to facilitate horizontal displacement by towing and the footings being also capable of at least partial for operation of the structure in the semi-submerged position and in the bottom-sitting position. A heave damping plate 37 surrounding the base of each footing and additional retractable damping plates 41 may be fitted.
