Abstract

1421764 Offshore structures TRADE & INDUSTRY SECRETARY OF STATE FOR 8 May 1973 [15 March 1972] 12039/72 Heading EIH An offshore structure comprises two or more spaced elongate ballastable concrete pontoons 1, 2 supporting a platform via a space frame structure, the structure being floated into position and sunk by flooding the pontoons, which are preferably formed in a unitary manner or as a plurality of modules and comprise a plurality of floodable compartments. After construction of the pontoons they are towed to a shallow site, and the space frame may then be erected thereon, or a complete space frame and platform may be located on the pontoons which are temporarily flooded. On site the structure may be stabilised during sinking by attaching to it a pair of cylindrical floats (Fig. 2 not shown). An anti-scour fence 42 may be located at each end of the pontoons. The structure may form a lightship or an oil or gas drilling or production platform.
