Abstract
1431804 Offshore structures COMPAGNIE GENERALE D'EQUIPEMENT MARITIME HERSENT 7 May 1973 [8 May 1972] 21717/73 Heading E1H An offshore structure is constructed by assembling a floatable pontoon I and a platform 2 equipped with jacking means 5 and columns 3 comprising sets of columns 3a and 3b for raising the platform relative to the pontoon, anchoring the pontoon in relatively shallow water lowering the columns to the sea bed to support the pontoon and erecting a framework 4 thereon. The columns are then raised, and the platform 2, which now rests on the framework 4 is held firmly thereon by means on the columns 3a engaging the bottom of pontoon 1, whilst the structure is towed to a deep-water site and moored. The columns 3b are released and penetrate the sea bed and the pontoon 1 is ballasted, the structure being lowered by the jacking means engaging columns 3b until the platform 2 reaches sea-level, the columns 3b being raised meanwhile to prevent bending stresses therein. The pontoon 1 and framework 4 are then lowered relative to the platform by means of columns 3a and the corresponding jacking means 5 until the pontoon 1 sits on the sea bed, the platform then being raised above sea level on columns 3. A pile guide is now attached to the columns 3a between the platform and the framework and piles formed from columns 3b are driven through the inclined members of the framweork. The piles are internally reinforced in the region between the platform and the framework. Columns 3a are also driven into the sea bed and secured to the platform.
