Abstract

1434231 Underwater structures L POCHITALOFF-HUVALE 29 June 1973 [21 July 1972] 31230/73 Heading E1H A subaqueous structure is formed in situ by pouring concrete into a flexible watertight jacket 1 which is first filled with liquid ballast to balance the external hydrostatic pressure. The structure may be an annular column, the jacket comprising a plurality of annular portions having reinforcements 5, 5d, and being extendable from a collapsed condition whilst simultaneously being lowered from a floating platform 2 and filled with, e.g. sea water, or bentonite slurry Further reinforcements 149 may be inserted in the expanded jacket which may have a base 25, as shown, for receiving concrete, or may have a precast base. In another embodiment for forming an underwater tunnel the jacket 1A is in an elongate generally cylindrical shape, and a plurality of jackets may be linked together prior to being lowered to the sea-bed.
