Abstract

1325640 Caissons K E LANGNER 11 April 1972 16576/72 Heading E1H A caisson for prospecting or drilling on a subaqueous bed is formed by assembling layers of interlocking blocks c of concrete or the like with a minimum of bonding, on an apertured base member a whilst the latter is lowered in stages, by steel cables b, to the subaqueous bed from an annular segmented float d. The latter includes a portion containing winches, engine rooms and crew quarters, which may be fixedly attached to the completed caisson or may remain free to float around it, and a detachable portion containing storage space for the blocks c. The blocks c may have vertical apertures e to receive steel reinforcing rods, and the upper ends of the apertures may be threaded to facilitate lifting and laying.
