Abstract
140,913. Scott, W. H., and Pollock, A. A. April 22, 1919. Brush-holders for dynamo-electric machines comprise a main member 1 substantially of L- shape and preferably cut from a metal bar, a channel-shaped member 3 secured to one limb to form a box for the brush 2 and a pair of side plates 4 secured to the other limb to embrace the spring 13 which applies pressure to the brush and the device for adjusting the pressure of the spring. One end of the spring is inserted in a slit in an axially slidable spindle 15 which is fitted with a lever 16 adapted to be engaged with any of a series of notches on one of the side plates 4. The lever 16 is disengaged from the notches by sliding the spindle 15 against the action of a spring 17. The side plates 4 may meet at about the middle line of the holder, or one plate may extend beyond this to enclose the spring 13, which is guided by extensions 16a of the side plates. The member 1 is secured to a support 5 by a stud 6, above the head of which the end fitting of the conductor 8 from the brush is clamped by a nut 12 and a spring washer. The support 5 is secured to the rocker 20, Fig. 4, between a strap 22 and packing 23.
