Abstract

151,490. Hassler, E. H. H., and Metropolitan-Vickers Electrical Co. Oct. 22,1919. Brush-holders.-In the boxtype of brush-holder the cylindrical spiral spring 3 that presses forward the brush 2 bears at its upper end against a cylindrical plunger 5 sliding in a tubular member 4 forming part of the holder, the plunger being provided with a series of ratchet teeth or notches 6 on its face which can be caused to engage with a spring 10 secured to the tubular member and acting as a pawl. The spring pawl 10 is mounted between two lugs 11, 12 on the member 4, one end of the spring being held by a pin 13 and the other end 14 projecting across an orifice in the member 4 in a position to engage with the notches 6. The plunger 5 is provided at each end with a circumferential groove 7, 8 so as to prevent it from being entirely removed from the member 4. To permit of its withdrawal when desired, the plunger is formed with a reduced portion 9 below the lower groove. A spring pin may take the place of the spring pawl.
