Abstract
1407766 I C engine driving gear KLOCKNER-HUMBOLDT-DEUTZ AG 30 April 1973 [25 May 1972] 20414/73 Heading F1B [Also in Divisions B7 and F2] A multi-cylinder in-line engine 1 is so orientated in use that the plane containing the axes of the cylinders 4 and the crank-shaft 6 is inclined to define an acute angle, e.g. 20 to 40 degrees, with a horizontal plane. A transmission including a variable ratio hydrostatic transmission is driven by the engine 1 and has an output shaft 43 parallel to but horizontally offset from the hydrostatic pump drive-shaft 21 which is coaxial with the crankshaft 6. The hydrostatic motor output shaft 31 delivers power in the opposite direction to input to the hydrostatic pump 20 and the axis of the output shaft 43 extends beneath the engine cylinder heads 8, Fig. 2. A two-speed gear drive 33 between the output shafts 31 and 43 includes a friction brake 54 associated with the lay-shaft 41. An output shaft 47 is driven with the shaft 43 by engagement of a clutch 49, 50. Power take-off shafts 62 and 70 are driven through a two-speed gear drive 56 from a friction clutch 18 associated with the crank-shaft flywheel 17. The gear drives 33 and 56 are mounted in a casing 26 providing bearings for the transmission shafts and a reservoir for the hydrostatic transmission fluid. A cooler (75), Fig. 3 (not shown), for the transmission fluid is mounted on a duct 14, Fig. 2, directing cooling air from the belt-driven fan 12 to the cylinders 4. The shaft 43 may drive a ship's propeller or a differential 92, Fig. 5, of a tractor rear axle 80. The output shaft 47 drives the differential 91 of the tractor front axle 79 and the power take-off shafts 62 and 70 are connected to stub shafts 93 and 94 mounted in bearings in the axles 79 and 80. The engine 1 and the casing 26 form a unit which is mounted on the tractor frame 88, 90 by rubber pads 16 mounted on brackets 15 and 77 on the engine and casing.
