Abstract

1403983 Web treatment apparatus MELODY MILLS Ltd 5 Oct 1972 [6 Oct 1971] 46486/71 Addition to 1362521 Heading D1L In apparatus for treating a continuously moving web of absorbent material (e.g. wallpaper) a web 2 is fed from a supply reel 1 via a creeper feed conveyor 5 and feed rolls 3 to a first wet treatment means 4 and then passes via guide roll 6 through opening 14 into a twin double pass drying tunnel 7 to be dried on a top endless chain band 12 before emerging from the tunnel and passing via support rolls 16 to a second wet treatment station 17 which applies a second coating to the coated side of the web, after which the wet web is again fed to the drying tunnel 7 through an opening 18 and passes along the lower part of the tunnel on bottom endless chain band 13, the dried web emerging from the tunnel at 23 and passing via guide rolls 24 and support rolls 25 beneath the web supply reel 1 to a third wet processing stage 26 at which the uncoated side of the web is coated, the web then being passed to wind-up reel 34 via guide rolls 27, a further double pass drying tunnel 28 having only one endless chain band 29 and second creeper feed conveyor 33. In the embodiment illustrated the apparatus is used for treating wallpaper, the first wet treatment means 4 is a pigment coating station, the second wet treatment station 17 imparts a decorative finish to the coated web e.g. by the Application of an aqueous solution, dispersion or emulsion of a micaceous material and the third wet treatment station 26 is a pre-pasting stage at which an aqueous solution of an adhesive is applied to the back of the paper web 2.
