Abstract

140,256. Macrory, R. V. May 10, 1919. Junction and test boxes; couplings.-A service joint-box has (1) a large opening facilitating inspection after jointing and for filling with compound, (2) an extended top E forming a pressure head of compound when filling, the sides of the box rising towards the opening so that air bubbles do not form, (3) a loose-fitting lid B with deep sides which prevent the entry of water and the formation of a partial vacuum as the compound contracts, and (4) bonding-clamps C which electrically connect the cable sheathing to the box automatically when the box, which is divided longitudinally, is bolted together. A groove is formed in the top and bottom edges of the divided clamps C, and the box parts have tapered grooves which co-operate with the grooved edges of the clamps and compress them as the clamps are pressed on to the cable.
