Abstract

112,289. Collie, J. H. Oct. 19, 1916. Junction boxes.-Relates to a gland for electric cables, pipes, &c. where they pass through bulkheads, decks, &c. in which fluid-tight connexions are made irrespective of the sealing compound whereby the sealing chamber can be used to apply a fluid-pressure test before being filled with the sealing compound. The fluid-tight connexions with the cables &c. H are made by compressing rubber or like disks E between pairs of metal disks C, D bv means of nuts G screwing into the tubular casing B secured in a water-tight manner in an opening in the bulkhead &c. A. The disks C are fitted with pins which pass through holes in the disks E, D and into slots formed in the shoulders of the casing B whereby relative movement is prevented. The nuts G are formed with extensions or horns g<1> which are used for screwing up the nuts and also form guards to protect the cables. The casing is provided with filling holes b<7> through which the hot sealing compound is poured after the fluidpressure test has been made. Where the cables &c. pass through a deck or floor, the casing B is extended vertically above the deck so as to form a protection for the cables.
