Abstract

1400923 Coating steel sheet before enamelling COCKERILL-OUGREE-PROVIDENCE ET ESPERANCE-LONGDOZ EN ABREGE COCKERILL 15 May 1973 [16 May 1972] 22969/73 Heading C7F Steel sheet is prepared for enamelling by degreasing, rinsing, heating, and applying to at least one surface a coating of a binary alloy of Fe and one of Co or Ni. Typically steel containing less than 0.012% C is heated to 200-800‹C and coated by evaporation in vacuo with an alloy containing 1-15% Ni, balance Fe, from separate sources; the evaporation may be arranged to give zero Ni content at the interface and a maximum content, e.g. of 25% at the surface; the weight of Ni applied may be 0.5-4 g/m<SP>2</SP>. Where the steel is to be stored prior to enamelling, it may be coated with (1) PVC (2) protective oil or (3) lubricant and protective soap, all of which must be removed before enamelling.
