Abstract
1400812 Foghorn KOCKUMS MEKANISKA VERKSTADS AB 19 Sept 1972 [27 Sept 1971] 43256/72 Heading G5J In a foghorn, to stop the diaphragm 7 from vibrating when no sound is required, steam is fed from the inlet chamber 8 through passages (12, 19, Fig. 3, not shown), to a valve cavity 14 and thence through passages 23, 11 to a back pressure chamber 10. A drain passage (21, Fig. 2, not shown), leading from the cavity 15 to a pipe 22, is of smaller diameter than the passages (12, 19) from the inlet chamber 8 to the cavity 15, so that the flow therethrough does not significantly reduce the pressure in cavity 15 and chamber 10. When sound is required, an electromagnetic actuator (29, Fig. 2, not shown) operates a ball-valve (20) to open a passage (27, 26) to atmosphere, passage (27, 26) being wider than the passages (12, 19) so as to produce a significant drop in pressure in cavity 15 and chamber 10.
