Abstract

1,228,782. Valves. WELLMAN INDUSTRIAL CONTROLS Ltd. 8 Jan., 1969 [11 Jan., 1968], No. 1567/68. Heading F2V. A fluid flow control valve 16, 17 is connected to a diaphragm 20 forming one wall of a pressure chamber 40 in which the pressure may be varied to operate the valve by a solenoid armature 44. Fluid from the inlet 11 flows through a bleed passage in the valve stem 15, an orifice 39 and a chamber 50 to atmosphere until the solenoid armature 44 depresses a pin 47 and causes a diaphragm 48 to stop the flow. The consequent rise in pressure in the chamber 40 opens the valve 16 and closes the valve 17. The bleed passage may consist of the annular space between a bore in the stem and a length of wire 32 or of the space between the stem and a tubular spacer 30. The valves 16, 17 are of soft rubber and a third port opening into the space below the diaphragm 20 may be provided.
