1396048 Earth working apparatus C M I CORP 27 Feb 1973 9568/73 Heading E1F An earth working apparatus, particularly for excavating the side of an earth bank, comprises a frame drivable in forward and reverse directions, and, mounted on one side of the frame, two horizontally extending 62, 64 and two vertically extending earth working implements; one horizontal and one vertical implement being used for each direction of motion. The vertical implements are pivoted outwardly for use by hydraulic rams 198, 214, and an earth removal conveyor 78 is disposed between the implements. The frame is moved by a number of endless track members 23, each of which is linked to the frame by a hydraulic ram; and the rams are arranged in three independently actuable groups;-rams 44, 46, 48; rams 52, 54, 56; and rams 50, 58. The rams 44, 46, and 48 are adjustable with respect to rams 52, 54, 56 to set the required tilt of the frame, and a level sensor operates rams 50, 58 to maintain a predetermined slope (Fig. 7, not shown). The conveyor 78 is driven by hydraulic motors 230 which are linked to rams 240, 242. These rams can be extended simultaneously to adjust the tension of the conveyor, or, in another mode of operation (Fig. 6, not shown), are operated differentially in response to a sensor (304) mounted on the conveyor to correct any conveyor misalignment.
