Abstract

Back-ripper for mine roadways consists of two supports in contact with the floor either side of the machine, a track arranged on the substructure for a turret which can be driven along the track by pressure rams, and finally a boom with fitted cutter head secured to the turret base. The substructure (2) can be raised clear of the floor by jacks (16) which project down from the base part of the turret component (10). Preferably these jacks should be mounted at the front and rear of the turret base. It is possible to use a number of jacks, though there must be as many at the front as at the rear of the turret. The jacks should be connected up to work in tandem, as between front and rear groups. The jacks should have floor plates (18).
