Abstract

1430617 Boring earth &c HYDROSOL 5 Dec 1973 [14 Dec 1972 15 Nov 1973] 56330/73 Heading E1F An earth-drilling device has two pairs of rotary cutters 11, Fig. 1, rotatable about axes transverse to the drilling direction, the cutters of each pair (Fig. 1) being mounted one on each side of and adjacent a plate-like support 6. The cutters of each pair are rotated by means of a motor 7 having a single rotatable shaft 9. The motor is hydraulic or electric and is supplied and controlled through a line 8. The cutters of each pair have tools 13 distributed around the cutters along helical paths of opposed pitches, the two pairs of cutters being rotated in opposite directions so that the excavated material is brought to a central position where it is removed through a central duct 14. The supports 6 are carried by a frame 1 having guide elements 4 to cooperate with the walls 5 of the excavation.
