980,294. Bucket wheel and ladder excavators. V. S. PENOTE. March 15, 1963 [March 16, 1962], No. 10479/63. Heading E1F. The conveyer mechanism for removing earth excavated by an endless digging unit, e.g. a bucket wheel, laterally clear of a mobile chassis-mounted boom on which the unit is mounted comprises two conveyers whose inner ends are positioned in substantially abutting relationship within the unit and which can be actuable in opposite directions to convey material discharged by the unit clear to both sides of said unit. Preferably each conveyer comprises two conveyer assemblies 50, 42 of which the assembly 42 is vertically swingable. The drive to the conveyers is such that the excavated material can, as desired, be discharged to a selected side or to both sides simultaneously of the digging unit.
