Abstract

766,031. Excavating earth and rock. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. March 30, 1955 [April 20, 1954], No. 9256/55. Class 68 (1). Earth scraper apparatus comprises a pair of alternatively operable blades 30, 37, the blade 30 being effective during forward operations and the blade 37 being effective during operations in the reverse direction. The blades with mould boards 23, 35 are mounted on a frame each end of which is pivoted to a beam 15 which is pivotably connected to the chassis 10a of a tractor. The frame is raised and lowered by an hydraulically operated ram 19 and turned about its pivots relative to the beams 15 by hydraulically operated rams 45 attached at 45a to the beams 15 so as to engage either the blade 30 or the blade 37 with the ground. The blade 37 and mould board 35 can be moved sideways relative to the blade 30 by an hydraulically operated ram 43. A number of scarifying teeth 51 mounted in guides 50 may be raised or lowered together by an hydraulically operated ram 55 which operates a rocker shaft 52 having rocker arms 52b to which the teeth 51 are attached. In a modification the blade supporting frame carries at one side a knife edged rooter tooth which is lowered or raised by an hydraulically operated ram. The scraper blades may be tilted. The scraper blades may be inclined to the direction of travel by steering the tractor, which has four wheel steering, in such a manner that its longitudinal axis is inclined to the direction of travel.
