Abstract

1,034,447. Boat for weed clearing. DEMERARA CO. Ltd. Oct. 28, 1963 [Nov. 24, 1962], No. 44535/62. Heading B7A. [Also in Division A1] A trench-cleaner comprises a punt 10 provided at its front end with a fork 21 supported so that it can be raised and lowered and moved from side to side for lifting the weeds and depositing them on the bank of the trench. The fork 21 is hinged to a jib 19 pivoted to a pillar 15 rotatable in a bearing 16 carried by beams 18 extending along the punt-bottom. The fork can be tilted by an hydraulic ram 24 and the jib can be raised by another ram 23. The pillar 15 is also rotatable by hydraulic means (not shown), the hydraulic power being provided by a tractor 31 mounted in the rear part of the punt with its driving wheels removed and replaced by paddles 30. The paddles comprise six vanes 32 secured at their ends by ties 33 and protected on their outer surfaces by buffer-rings 34. The stern of the punt is narrower than the bow so that the paddles are accommodated within the beam of the punt. Splash-guards are arranged over the paddles to protect the operator from spray.
