Abstract

1391208 Child-proof dispensing valves R P LINKLETTER 12 June 1972 [28 June 1971] 27340/72 Heading B8T [Also in Division F1] The valve member 32 of a container 12 is prevented from moving to an open position by a rotatable safety ring 56 having an abutment surface 62 engaging the portion 68 of a laterallyextending projection 58 on the valve member 32, the safety ring 56 having a longitudinal channel 64 permitting the passage of the projection 68 when they are rotated into angular alignment, to operate the valve. The valve member 32 is slidably mounted in a tube 34 integral with a cap 16 screwed on to the container neck 14, and the lateral projection 58 keys the valve member 32 to the fixed tube 34. The safety ring 56 is secured to the fixed tube 34 by flare 72, but can rotate thereon. A tapered pin 50 carried by posts 46 on the fixed tube 34 closes the lower end of the valve member 32. Rotation of the safety ring 56 to bring indicia on the flange 40 and on the ring 56 into alignment permits raising of the valve member 32 by means of the flange 40. In another embodiment, Figs. 7-9, an aerosol valve 86 is operated by downward movement of an actuator 90 provided with a nozzle 92. The rotatable safety ring 96 protrudes through a snap-fitted cover 116 so that raised indexing tabs 118 and 120 may be angularly aligned to permit opening of the valve controlled by valve member 86. The safety ring 96 is provided with a tubular stem 100 whose upper end 101 abuts a radial locking projection 102 on the actuator 90. The upper end 101 has a release notch which can accommodate the projection 102 when the tabs 118 and 120 are aligned so that the valve may be opened. In a further embodiment, Figs. 10 and 11 (not shown), the cover 116 is omitted, and there is no nozzle 92 projecting beyond the actuator 90. The safety ring 96 does not project outwards beyond the flange 110.
