Abstract

1431498 Safety closures; cartons EDWARD JOHNSON TOWNS & ASSOCIATES 13 June 1973 [13 June 1972 9 April 1973] 28100/73 Headings B8T and B8P A safety closure in the form of a snap cap 20 Fig. 2, has a top member 23 which is hinged at 25, a recess 26, in which is a fulcrum member 31, enabling pressure to be applied manually at an area 36 in order to disengage the top member 23 at 33 from a groove 34 of the remaining part of the closure 20. Once open the cap 20 can be pulled off a bottle 22 with which it is engaged by means of the top member 23, Fig. 5 (not shown). To provide additional flexibility a portion 46 of reduced thickness may be provided. The cap (48) may be used with a squeezetype plastics bottle, Figs. 6 and 7 (not shown), where a plug (63) attached to the top member (56) seals an opening (62) when the top member (56) is shut. The member (56) merely provides a hinged top and is not used for pulling the cap off. An adapter (73) in the form of a ring may be used to fit the cover to an opening of a cardboard container or metal can, Figs. 8, 9 and 10 (not shown), and the cap (65) may be simply locked on to the adapter (73). Again, the cap (86) may be used with a spray can (83), Figs. 11-14 (not shown). Here, the cap (86) is lengthened to form a plug portion which fits within an inner cylindrical sleeve of an annular overcap (84) which is engaged on the spray can (83). The plug portion (113) of the cap (107) may fit directly into the container neck, Fig. 17 (not shown). In this embodiment the plug portion (113) is provided with heads (118) for bleeding air from the container (108). [GB1431498A]
