Abstract

1390685 Restoring wooden beams BOUWECONOMISCH EN - TECHNOLOGISCH ADVIESBUREAU BV 20 Dec 1972 [20 Dec 1971] 58953/72 Heading E1S In order to restore a decayed end of a wooden beam in a building, where the end is supported by, e.g. a wall, a hole 5 is drilled into the affected area, a loosely-fitting reinforcement rod 6 or tube is inserted into the hole, and the hole is filled up with a hardening plastics material, e.g. an epoxy resin material. As shown, the plastics material will normally fill the space 3-4' left by the decayed timber and will impregnate the affected area 1a. If a tube is employed as reinforcement, the plastics material can be injected through it. Alternatively the plastics material can be injected in through the wall to fill up the hole. The reinforcement may be metal or glass fibre reinforced plastics. Permeable spots in the wall can be pre-treated with epoxy resin and a filler.
