Abstract
934,588. Moulding barriers for level crossings. WERK FUR SIGNAL UND SICHERUNGSTECHNIK BERLIN VEB. Aug. 15, 1961, No. 29464/61. Class 87(2). [Also in Group XXX] In a method of making a barrier beam for level crossings one or more layers 5 of a filler which is either dry and has been previously impregnated with a synthetic resin are applied to a tapered core 4 and a sheet metal sleeve 2 to support the beam is embedded in the wider end of the beam. A sheath 6 which is impermeable to liquid is then drawn over the core and the space remaining between the core and the sheath is filled by pouring in a hardenable liquid synthetic resin to form a shell 1. The sheath 6, preferably a thin transparent foil is removed after the resin has hardened. The resin may be coloured or transparent in which case the beam may incorporate coloured inserts, which themselves may contain a continuous or flashing light. The beam may be made in more than one piece, and the pieces may be joined by a sleeve, which may be of the same material as the beam, fitting inside the pieces and adhesively secured thereto, Fig. 4 (not shown).
