Abstract

1389850 Liquid heater GUSTAVSBERGS FABRIKER AB 11 Sept 1972 [10 September 1971] 42060/72 Heading F4A A heater for producing a domestic supply of hot liquid under super-atmospheric pressure comprises a liquid tank 1, having an inlet 4, a valved outlet 3, and divided by a thin partition 5 into a large chamber 9 and a small chamber 10 containing a heating surface 2; an opening 7 being provided in the top of the partion and operating through capillary and surface forces to conduct any gas in the chamber 10 to chamber 9 under the influence of the pressure difference caused by opening outlet valve 19. As shown this opening 7 is a capillary tube of dimensions to normally resist the passage of gas from chamber 10 and is inserted in a holder of rubber or plastics and mounted in an aperture of the partition but can be a small hole in the top of the partition (Fig. 2, not shown) or flexible material pierced by a small self-closing aperture. A still further valve 8 controls the access to the opening 7. Liquid communication between chambers 9, 10 is by a hole 6 and in another embodiment (Fig. 2, not shown) the valve 8 is mounted at this hole to resist flow out of the chamber. In the embodiments illustrated the heating surface 2 is an electric heating element, but an indirect heating coil may be used.
