Abstract

The valve is for controlling the flow of low temperature fluids, such as liquid nitrogen or hydrogen, at high pressures. The inlet and outlet pipes for the fluid are in the lower section, at right angles, and flow is controlled by a plug (22) and seating (24). The valve body (8) is surrounded by a casing (40) completely enclosing it and fitting around the inlet and outlet pipes, giving a leakproof assembly. In the wall of the casing is a needle valve (44) which is used to form a vacuum in the space between the casing and the valve body. The walls of the casing are between 1 and 1.2 mm thick.
