Abstract

1389220 Luffing boom apparatus F D RUNECKLES 16 Aug 1972 [15 July 1971] 33328/71 Heading B8H A mobile load raising and lowering device comprises a base 10 from which extend legs 11 each having a vertically adjustable wheel 12, a lower beam 13 pivotally mounted at 14 on the base 10 and an upper beam 15 pivotally mounted at 16 to the lower beam 13, an hydraulic ram H being connected between the base 10 and the lower beam 13 for raising the latter, the upper beam 15 being movable away from the lower beam 13 as the latter is raised by means of a mechanical linkage connected between the beams and the base 10, said linkage comprising a pair of levers 19 which are pivoted intermediate their ends near the upper end of the beam 13, said levers 19 being pivotally connected at one end by means of struts 18 to the base 10 and being pivotally connected at the other end by means of link bars 20 to the upper beam 15. A man-carrying cage 17 is pivoted to the upper end of the upper beam 15 and is secured by a chain 21 to the lower beam 13, this arrangement maintaining the cage 17 substantially horizontal during the raising and lowering of the beams 13, 15.
