Abstract

1389153 Electro-photographic liquid development SAVIN BUSINESS MACHINES CORP 5 July 1973 [17 Nov 1972] 32084/73 Heading G2H In an apparatus for liquid development of a latent electrostatic image on a drum 12 of the kind in which a biasing electrode 29 is associated with the developer unit 28, the drum 12 has a conductive substrate 13, a photo-conductive surface portion 16 and an electrically conductive surface portion 15 insulated from the substrate 13 and the photo-conductive portion 16. The portion 15 corresponds to the mirror return segment of the drum 12. A potential intermediate ground potential and the maximum potential of the charge image is applied to the biasing electrode 29 and also, during its movement adjacent to the developer unit 28, to the conductive surface portion 15. The apparatus may include a surface charge field sensor 52 to measure the residual background potential of a charged and exposed area of the photo-conductive portion 16 and voltage control means 54, 56 for adjusting the potential applied to the electrode 27 and to the portion 15 to equal the measured potential.
