Abstract

1387831 Hydrodynamic couplings FLUIDRIVE ENG CO Ltd 14 Feb 1972 [17 Feb 1971] 4858/71 Heading F2C In a scoop-trimmed hydrodynamic coupling having an impeller 3, turbine 8 and scoop chamber 4, the latter is connected to the working circuit W by a tube 12 facing into the vortex flow set up in the working circuit when the turbine 8 is rotating and the impeller 3 is stationary to facilitate a flow of cooling liquid through the coupling under said conditions. The liquid is continuously fed to the coupling through a duct 9 and tube 11. The part of the tube 12 which projects into the working circuit is shaped, Figs. 2-4 (not shown), to facilitate flow therethrough when the turbine 8 is rotating and the impeller 3 is stationary. In Figs. 6-10 (not shown) a double fluid coupling is provided with tubes which facilitate a cooling flow through the double coupling when the turbine elements are rotating and the impeller elements are stationary.
