Abstract
1,000,565. Hydraulic couplings. AMERICAN RADIATOR & STANDARD SANITARY CORPORATION. April 2, 1963, No. 12992/63. Heading F2C. Overloading of an hydraulic turbo-coupling is prevented by providing a number of radial tubes 335 adjacent the inner periphery of the runner 22 and with their inlets 339 projecting into the runner, whereby the working chamber is partly emptied when the vortex liquid moves inwards from the normal full load working radius. As shown, the tubes 335 discharge the liquid on to an inclined deflector ring 345 bolted to the runner hub 26 and so into the scoop chamber 70. In a modification, Fig. 2 (not shown), the ring 345 is omitted and the inner ends of the tubes 335 are bent through a right angle, while in a further arrangement, Fig. 3 (not shown), the outer ends of the tubes are curved for direct entry of the liquid and a deflector integral with the runner hub is provided. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 992,415.
