Abstract
1424704 Hydrodynamic couplings FRANCAISE DU FERODO SA 26 April 1973 [27 April 1972 25 April 1973] 19974/73 Heading F2W A continuous flow through a hydrodynamic coupling 10 having pump and turbine elements 13, 14 is effected by a bleed tube 29 fast with a turbine hub 16 and projecting into the working circuit to direct fluid therefrom through ducts 28, 35, 42, 51 to a cooler (50) or reservoir from which the liquid returns to the working circuit through ducts 52, 43, 44, 38. A pump (55) may be provided between the bleed tube and cooler or reservoir to increase circulation through the coupling. In Figs. 4 and 6 (not shown) the bleed tube follows the contour of the outer shroud of the turbine wheel. In Fig. 4 the bleed tube delivers to a reservoir rotating with the pump wheel and liquid is returned from the reservoir to the working circuit through a scoop tube (126). A permanent bleed (141) is also provided between the working circuit and reservoir. The position of the scoop tube (126) may be adjusted by a lever (137) to vary the filling of the coupling. The return flow to the working circuit may pass through a cooler. In Fig. 6 the bleed tube delivers to a non- rotating reservoir (220) and liquid returns therefrom to the working circuit by gravity flow. The level of liquid in the reservoir (220) and thus the filling of the coupling is controlled by adjusting the height of a return tube (248).
