Abstract
1,081,769. Hydrodynamic coupling. FLUIDRIVE ENGINEERING CO. Ltd. Oct. 6, 1964 [Oct. 16, 1963], No. 40921/63. Heading F2C. A hydrodynamic coupling comprises a stationary casing 9 which encloses an impeller 1 fast with a driving shaft 6, a turbine 2 fast with a driven shaft 11, a scoop chamber 4 rotating with the impeller 1 and oppositely directed scoop tubes 27, 28 which are interconnected for simultaneous adjustment and discharge through a de-aeration chamber 29 into a sump 33 in the casing 9. The scoop tubes 27, 28 discharge into the de-aeration chamber 29 tangentially to form a rotating film on the wall thereof and thus permit the entrained air to escape through a tube 33a. Liquid is drawn from the sump 33 by an input driven pump 35 and returned to the working circuit through a cooler, and ducts 21, 20, 22, 23. A lubrication scoop tube 26 carried by the output shaft 11 delivers liquid from the duct 22 to a bearing 25 between the input and output shafts at a rate dependent on the slip in the coupling.
