932,632. Hydraulic turbines. DOMINION ENGINEERING WORKS Ltd. Aug. 14, 1961 [Aug. 23, 1960], No. 29325/61. Class 110 (3). An hydraulic turbine comprising a runner band 6 and a throat ring 7 with lower and upper seals 4, 5 between them, the lower seal 4 having a larger clearance than the upper, has a duct 2 connecting the annular space 1 to a zone of pressure lower than that immediately below the seal 4. The duct 2 is connected to an orifice 3 near the centre of the draft tube 8 to draw off any water leaking into the space 1. A duct 10 connects the space 1 to a compressed air supply, which may be omitted if the pressure at the orifice 3 is below atmospheric. Specification 888,795 is referred to.
