Abstract

946,185. Hydraulic turbines. KARLSTADS MEKANISKA WERKSTAD A.B. June 22, 1962 [June 26, 1961], No. 24025/62. Heading F1T. In an hydraulic turbine, or turbine which may be used as a pump, adjustable guide vanes are mounted on trunnions and a locking device therefore is provided in which the trunnion or a casing enclosing the trunnion has a cavity expanded hydraulically to effect frictional engagement. A Francis type turbine, has fixed guide vanes 15 and adjustable vanes 17 mounted on trunnions 27 enclosed in a casing 29. An annular cavity 37 has a thin wall 35 and the cavity is supplied with oil under pressure through a pipe 51 to lock the vane in position. In an alternative embodiment, the trunnion itself has a thin walled hollow portion to which oil is supplied under pressure (Fig. 8, not shown).
